Is Anxiety Negatively Impacting Your Life?

Do you or your child often experience intense fear, panic, or feelings of doom?

Is it difficult for you to calm yourself when you’re overwhelmed?

Are physical symptoms like headaches and digestive issues making mental or emotional symptoms worse?

It’s common for children and adults alike to overlook anxiety as the reason for their distress. Instead of viewing symptoms through the lens of mental health, you may assume that discomfort stems from physical issues or stressful circumstances. But the reality is that beneath the surface, a feedback loop is being created that perpetuates ongoing feelings of insecurity, uncertainty, and fear.

As a result, worry has become your or your child’s normalized, go-to response. Relaxation may be almost impossible to achieve, and you may find it increasingly difficult to concentrate as the cycle of anxiety worsens. This constant sense of unease has probably made the ins and outs of everyday life—including school, work, and your daily routine—feel overwhelming.

At Balance Counseling, we are passionate about supporting our clients as they learn to escape the anxiety cycle. As we work to trace your symptoms back to their root, our therapists can help you or your child experience long-term healing and relief from your anxiety symptoms.

Anxiety Is Very Common And Has Many Causes

While there is not always just one cause for anxiety, a lot of fears and worries stem from the beliefs we’ve developed about our self-worth. All of us have experienced situations that caused us to feel insecure or inadequate, so our brains then put protective mechanisms in place to keep us safe.

If that stress response gets left unchecked, however, an anxiety or panic disorder can develop. And soon, everything from our sleep patterns to our inner dialogue to our performance at work or school is affected. When outside stressors get added to the mix, it can make the cycle worse.

Anxiety May Look Different Depending On Age

School can be a big source of anxiety for our child and teen clients. Many parents reach out for counseling because their child has suddenly developed difficulties with their academic performance, whether they struggle to stay focused, organized, or confident about their abilities. This stress then gets carried over to their lives outside of school, which can lead to increased conflict and pressure at home.

While our anxiety treatment services are available to clients of all ages, our team is highly experienced in counseling for children and teens. In therapy, we work with kids—and their parents—to identify how anxiety is showing up and how to manage it.

At Balance Counseling, we are passionate about empowering our clients to address their challenges and initiate change in their lives. Whether you’re an adult who’s struggling with anxiety and panic attacks or you’re the parent of a child or teen who’s unable to regulate their stress, our therapy services are individualized to your needs.

Our Approach

As a trauma-informed practice, we understand the impact of anxiety on the body, which is why our treatment approach focuses on how symptoms are felt. Once you have an idea of how anxiety shows up, you can develop the skills needed to stop it before it takes over. Through this process, you can learn how to be more self-aware, self-compassionate, and self-understanding.

Because we work with clients of all ages, we incorporate therapy approaches depending on what’s appropriate for each individual’s development level and experience of anxiety. Our state-of-the-art counseling center has multiple playrooms for children and teens to participate in Play Therapy and Sand Tray Therapy alongside practical, creative approaches that can help facilitate change. For adult clients, we may incorporate creative therapies, grounding techniques, and trauma-focused work to help initiate long-term change and healing.

A significant part of our work involves empowering the children, teens, and adults we work with to become the expert on their own lives. We won’t tell you what you “should” and “shouldn’t” do; instead, we will give you the guidance to help you see what you’re capable of, which can be life-changing in and of itself.

Our practice is built on fostering a strong client-therapist relationship with all of our clients that can meaningfully increase connection and reduce anxiety. So, as long as you’re ready to put in the work to learn the skills and insights needed to manage feelings of stress and overwhelm, we are here to support you through every step of this process.

Common Concerns About Therapy For Anxiety

Talking about my anxiety with a therapist will just make me feel worse.

The therapeutic process is meant to make you feel better, not worse. While it can be vulnerable to open up about certain fears, worries, or traumas, therapists are specially trained to teach you how to manage stress and anxiety.

Think of it this way: if you had a cut on your leg that was getting infected, you probably wouldn’t ignore it—you’d go to the doctor! Therapy is the same way. Your wounds aren’t going to magically heal if you ignore them, but working with an anxiety disorder specialist can help pave a substantial path toward relief.

Anxiety treatment is too expensive.

At Balance Counseling, we aim to make the cost of anxiety therapy as affordable as possible. In addition to offering you the opportunity to submit a superbill to your insurance network, we have a sliding scale option available. Depending on what’s affordable, we will do our best to meet your financial needs.

My child has/I have tried therapy for anxiety in the past, but it didn’t work.

We’re sorry to hear that therapy hasn’t been effective for you in the past. Part of this process together will be figuring out what did and didn’t work so that we can better individualize anxiety treatment to your needs.

We also want to make it clear that you are in the driver’s seat of this process, not us. We encourage you to be honest about how you’re feeling every step of the way so we can adjust as needed.
